Sexual Harassment Climate Surveys

GW’s Title IX Office is committed to building a safe, respectful and inclusive education and workplace environment by responding to reports of sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, and stalking and by providing campus-wide prevention and awareness educational opportunities. To achieve that work, it is vital that GW’s Title IX Office has a comprehensive understanding of students’ experiences and attitudes about the campus climate around sexual harassment. Learning about these experiences and attitudes helps us learn how we can better prevent and respond to these issues at GW.

Purpose of Climate Surveys

Sexual Harassment Climate Surveys are intended to provide valuable insight into multiple aspects of sexual harassment prevention and response. Some questions aim to gather information about the types of incidents community members experience, as well as experiences with reporting and seeking support. Additional questions seek input on student perceptions of safety, norms around consent and bystander intervention, and overall support and connection on campus to better inform prevention efforts.

GW's 2024 Sexual Harassment Climate Survey

In partnership with the Office of Survey Research and Analysis, the Title IX Office released the 2024 Sexual Harassment Climate Survey in April to a random sample of 6,000 GW students. Everyone who received the survey was encouraged to take part, make their voice heard, and contribute to a safe, respectful, and inclusive university climate where sexual harassment is not tolerated. The survey yielded an expansive dataset that is being used to identify gaps and develop recommendations for improving  sexual harassment prevention and response on campus. The Title IX Office’s planned action steps in response to these results are detailed in the 2024 Climate Survey Report.
